TRENT CALL and SRI WHIPPLE

Trent & Sri collaboration for the Pink Lightnin' tee

Trent Call and Sri Whipple interview by Dave Styer for Artcotic.

A- Do you prefer Star Wars or Star Trek?  Why?

Sri-  Star Trek, Because of James Tiberius Kirk  remember the "Fying Judo Kick"?  But, Han Solo and Chewbacca are pretty cool too!

Trent-  Why?  The force of course.  STAR WARS!

A-Sri you are a big fan of pasta what's your favorite flavor and do you prefer white or red sauce?

Sri-  I love tortellini with any sauce, white sauce, red sauce, but both are secondary to the kind of butter you use and who cooked it.

A-Tell us about your art show at the art center guys?  Tell us about your collaborative piece etc....

Sri-  I love collaborating with Trent, the finished piece turned out great.  THREE-DEEEE!

Trent-  It was a proposed spontaneous collaboration.  I had to talk them into letting us paint it.

A-I saw the piece and you had 3d glasses strewn about.  Is the piece 3d?  And how in the world did you manage that?

Sri-  Thank you for asking, I'm glad you noticed the glasses!  That part was easy, we just bought them and "strew" them around.  The hard part was refraining ffrom working in the 4th and 5th dimensions in the work.  (Which both Trent and I are used to doing)

Trent-  Yeah, the piece is 3D!  Some parts are more 3D than others... It's a super secret...how we did it.

A-Is it hard making it as an artist here in Salt Lake.

Sri-  Depends on how much you value money and material possesions.

Trent-  We eat and drink well.

A-Trent I saw a piece of yours featured in Juxtapoz, how did that come about?

Trent-  I'm not sure?  They just dropped me an email, I didn't ask to many questions.

Sri-  "I felt like Betty Rubble with a handful of Barney's Rubble!"

A-How does L. Ron Hubbard influence your work guys?
Sri-  It's a secret.  (I don't want to freak all the Pre-Clears)

Trent-  I'm way into SCI-FI, but I've never read him only heard the stories.

A-What are your favorite mediums to work with or in?

Sri-  I prefer the all or nothings.  Medium is for wimps!  But, seriously I like it all!

Trent-  Oil, Pen, Pencil.

A-If you could be a motorcycle what kind would you be and why?

Sri-  Your mom's motorcycle, she's HOT!

Trent-  A......Triumph!  But, I'd rather be a bicycle that's more my style.

A-What's the worst thing that money has done to your art?

Sri-  Not show up on time.

Trent-  Tries to alter it.

A-SNOOZE DUDES!

A-Trent I've just recently met you.  You seem like a mellow cat, but I can tell that under that peaceful exterior you've got an animal waiting to come out!  What is the most embarrassing thing you've ever done?

Trent-  I don't really get embarrassed.  But, I'm really shy at times.

A-If you could choose betwixt a Transformer or Dinobot as your "partner" which would you choose?  Why?

Sri-  Dinobot!  Cause it's a "Bot" not a "Former" plus I could ride her!

Trent-  Transformer.  The boombox sound guy "Soundwave"  He makes sounds all day long and I could have the tape cassette things as pets.

A-We've all seen movies that have influenced our lives, and our art.  For instance...I've written many songs about Deathrace 2000,Battlestar Galactica, and the list goes on.  Have you guys ever created pieces that were influenced by movies?  What movies and why?

Sri-  Maybe if so-  Holy Mountain, Metropolis (on acid),   Modern Times, Wizard of Oz and Cartoons cause they're there.

Trent-  I'm very inspired by the Goonies, although I've yet to paint a picture directly related to it.

A-Thanks guys, been a real treat, hugs and kisses all around!!
